Sony Re-launches PlayStation Network After Longest Ever Downtime
The Sony PlayStation Network has been re-launched across Europe and the United States after having suffered its longest ever downtime which began as an ‘external intrusion' first detected on April 20th.
Sony discovered a huge security breach that led to the theft of personal data from millions of users. The news of PlayStation Network's restart will be welcomed by gamers and they will be pleased to know that the data security systems have been greatly upgraded and new security features will greet PlayStation users after they download the mandatory v3.61 system update.
All users are required to change their PlayStation Network passwords when they first attempt to sign back into the Network, and although Kazuo Hirai, Sony's Executive Deputy President has announced in quite generic terminology, the upgraded security components are described as "advanced security technology" "increased levels of encryption" and "additional firewalls", also a new early warning detection system is also in place to identify unusual activity that could signal an attack in the network.
Gamers the world over will rejoice at the news that restoring its online PlayStation video game Network has already begun and will be fully restored by the end of May and there is more good news as the company said that it would be offering a "welcome back" package to users that would include some "premium content".
